I have been trying to find my grandfather and his ancesters. He was born in Big Rapids Sept 30, 1878 . A birth certificate was or is not available. His name was Harry Irving VanVleck, his father name was William H VanVleck from New York born 1836. My grandfather had 5 brothers and sisters, 2 of them born in New York. There
are some VanVlecks in Ionia Co ( settlers ) but I don't know if they are related. I would welcome any input that you may offer. Thank you for your trouble

Mary BROWN, her son's Benson and Harrison, moved to Altona, Mecosta County, about 1870 to work in the "woods". Benson ended up farming. Benson married Lydia ALLEN and had three children: Ernest, Charley, and Della (perhaps Bertha Adelbert). Della died at 18 but I have a stack of letters written to her from Ontario relatives, and a couple replies. They mention many Altona and Sylvester people. I'm happy to share and will make an effort to locate folks interested in those surnames. Benson was treasurer of Big Rapids or Mecosta and we have many tax records, deeds, and mortgage records. Any information on other family relatives would be appreciated.

Helpful genealogical lookup volunteer, I'm searching for any information about my great-grandfather, Jacob Snyder (Jakob? Schneider?) who was one of the founding persons in Remus, MI located in Mecosta County. In fact, I'm told he owned most of the acreage at one point or another. He married Theresa Voight (perhaps at St. Michael's church; at least that's were my grandfather's baptismal record was). My brother thoughT he narrowed his naturalization down to about 1880-1882. I believe Jacob died about 1938 in Kent County since he was living at my father's home in Grand Rapids (as a 13 old boy). Theresa died in Remus about 1913. They had 8 children; Joseph, Jacob, Sister Mary Michael (real name?), Frank, Rose (married William Flacks), Augusta (married John Flacks), Ernest, and Carl. All children were born in Remus.
